Meeting 1st August

On a warm August evening, competing with a noisy adjacent fairground, our Chair LG used the joint theme of mountains and hares for her fill in material. We learned that a male hare is called a Jack and a female hare is called a Jill. The collective noun is a drove of hares – fascinating, we learn something every day…

Meeting 18th July

On another warm July evening our Chair JR used the theme of ‘coincidences and ‘it’s a small world’ for her fill in material.

It was another evening of multitasking and well done to JT for wearing his 3 hats – awesome!

Meeting 4th July

On a warm July evening we had the pleasure of 5 yes FIVE guests in the Library
including KD and JH from the Colchester and Bury St Edmunds clubs.
Our Chair SR used the theme of Wimbledon for fill in material- but without using the ‘T’word!

Meeting 20th June

On a warm balmy June evening our chair TH treated us to the delights of the ‘silly season’
including a story about a racoon with no fear of heights whatsoever. Laughter ensued.

Meeting 6th June

New Beginnings was the theme of the evening chosen by our chair CLW.

We had the pleasure of our returning guest JW and also guest DB from the Newark Speakers Club who joined us while on his holiday. We hope he enjoyed the evening.

Meeting 23rd May

Our Chair last night was DM, and in his usual relaxed form steered us through another enjoyable evening peppered with humour. The current President SR stands down from the end of May and DM will take over as the new President of the club.

It was the last meeting for our members KB and PB who are soon to move to the Lake District. TH gave them a splendid verbal send off and presented them with a book and a bottle of fizzy to enjoy. We will all miss them very much and wish them well for the future.

We had the pleasure of our guest JW, we hope he enjoyed the evening and look forward to seeing him again soon.

Meeting 9th May

As we have just enjoyed a long Bank holiday weekend with glorious weather, our most able Chair PB used the theme of  ‘holidays’ for the meeting. The most enjoyable evening was punctuated with lots of interesting ‘holiday’ themed fill-in material.

Meeting 25th April

An unusual evening with April showers, the use of the club computer and projector
plus the unexpected puncture dealt with during the break.
Despite all this our chair LG was not phased at all and chaired a flawless meeting.
Much trivia and fill-in material relevant to the date of April 25th was used.

Today was the funeral of the great entertainer Sir Kenneth Arthur Dodd.
As a celebration of the joy that he brought us over 7 decades, our Chair SR
