On a freezing evening in January, our Toastmaster DM warmed us with his usual style of relaxed delivery and good humour.
Introductions were to the question:
What have you found is important when speaking in public? We were given lots of additional tips during the evening as fill-in material.
We had the pleasure of 2 guests last night, JG & JM. We hope they enjoyed the evening and look forward to seeing them again.
Sadly we heard that JD will no longer be with the club, we wish her all the best for the future and will miss her (and Mater’s) smiling faces.
The invocation was a short maxim by SR:
‘Chop your own firewood and it will warm you twice’
Duties: Timer – JW, Ah Counter – CAW
Wordmaster – LC with the word ‘usurp’
Evaluators: KB, CAW & CLW
The prepared speeches were as follows:
JR with ‘More than we know’
CAW with ‘English Weddings’
PB with ‘What exactly is a storm surge?’
Our Table Topics Master SR posed various domestic dichotomies:
Keeping warm – thermal vest or stiff upper lip?
Food past its sell by date – is it ok to eat?
Housework – should domestic servants be re-introduced?
Shopping- Lidl or Waitrose?
Tattoos – are they chic or just common?
