Fellow NNSC Toastmasters, welcome to the first of a new wave of Hot Toast Newsletters from North Norfolk Speakers’ Club. Don’t worry, they won’t be annoyingly regular but more occasional when there are items to report.
What a fabulous year 2014 has been!
Earlier this year we were in dire straits with a dwindling membership and an evaporating bank balance. Members were leaving for no particular reason, and on club meetings we were struggling at times with 11 or 12 members present. But in true Toastmaster character, members rose to the occasion by multi-tasking, some members doing up to three duties at a meeting!
But by late summer there was a welcome influx of guests who have wisely chosen to join our ranks and I’m pleased to welcome our new members Dorothy, Jennie, Joanne, Kate, Peter and William. Individually and together they have brought their own particular skills and characters to the club.
Our monthly subscriptions rose for the first time from £7.50 to £9.00 per month – which is still a snip and represents excellent value for money.
In March this year, our president Dave McNaughter was finally rewarded for his part in forming NNSC and for 12 years of dedicated work within the club by being presented with his DTM (Distinguished ToastMaster) plaque. Well done that man!
Talking of DTMs it’s great to have Andrew Brammer back not only as a stout pillar of knowledge and source of humour, but also for his tremendous enthusiasm and encouragement to the rest of us.
In the the international Speech Contest and Humorous Speech Contest we failed to get past Area level. But in the best Toastmaster spirit we will be back again in 2015…
